Mercedes Schlapp is not the White House's strategic communications advisor. It is not easy for Mercedes Schlapp as the strategic communication adviser at White House. Schlapp has managed to stay in the right frame of mind and stay on top of her game and work alongside White House teams in political affairs and legislative affairs, along with the wider communications team. The first few months, Schlapp has focused on school safety issues, addiction infrastructure, international trade and addiction. Schlapp isn't involved with journalists much in her current role. In March, she was the subject of a sudden surge in media attention when it was it was announced that she would be a candidate for replace Hope Hicks as director of communication. The fight has been ugly.Mercedes Schlapp doesn't enjoy a smooth job of the White House strategic communications adviser. She has to deal with a president who serves as his own communications director, multiple legal battles which could disrupt the administration's messaging strategy and a number of Cabinet secretaries caught up in their own controversy. However, throughout it all Schlapp is focused on the mission at hand, working closely with the White House's political and legislative affairs teams and policy shops as well with the larger communications team for policy-related rollouts. So far, her focus has been on matters such as the safety of schools, opioids, infrastructure, and trade. The current position she holds doesn't require much contact with reporters. But, back in March, her name was floated to be the person who could succeed Hope Hicks at the Communications Director post. It was a tense battle. Schlapp's allies began fighting with Tony Sayegh on the news. After The Washington Examiner published a negative story about Sayegh, Schlapp stated that she called the candidate to be heart to heart.
